Hello!
I am Andrew Harry Conroy, I also go by Drew. My career journey began at the age of 15 in radio, where I worked the graveyard shift on the weekends. I spent the following ten years working in radio. In addition, I ran a Mobile DJ Business that provided music and a master of ceremonies for various events. My DJ career would take me across the US, Canada, and Mexico. Some of the companies I have had the pleasure to work with are: Coca-Cola, John Deere, AT&T, Bank of America, L'Oréal, Lowe's, The Academy Awards Party for the Movie "Pulp Fiction", "Grace Under Fire" television show, CBS Studios, Deloitte & Touche, and others.
Being a DJ was not what I had always wanted to do. Working in film and video has been a dream of mine since I can remember. I went to school for film and video and graduated from the Art Institute of Houston. Right after graduation, I moved to the East Coast, just outside Boston. I have spent several years working on commercials, corporate videos, and feature films. During that time, I continued to run my Mobile DJ Business.
Several years had passed, and I was getting burned out juggling my film/video career with my DJ Business. I finally ended my DJ career, which spanned nearly 23 years. In addition, I was not feeling the excitement and passion I once had for the film and video industry. Working as a PA (production assistant) was not satisfying my creative side, and that's when I got serious about video editing. I have always liked writing and have written multiple stories and screenplays. A storyteller + editing = a good fit.(At least I think so).
My freelance video editing career was moving along at a good pace. However, I had this idea that kept nagging at me. I have always been fascinated with the internet since its inception in the mainstream public in the early to mid-1990s. If I was ever going to check that off my bucket list, that was the time to do it. Again, I went back to school and obtained a degree in computer information systems with a focus on web development. As a result, I built an online directory for wedding and event professionals. Professionals, like myself at the time, would pay a fee either monthly or annually to list their business. In return, my directory would drive traffic to their website from their listing.
I had that directory for a little over a decade but felt it was time to move on. Therefore, I sold it and was able to check off "Web Directory" from my bucket list. At the time, the idea for creating a web directory stemmed from the advertising I was doing for my mobile DJ business. Looking inside from the outside, it seemed like it would not be that difficult to build and maintain. To say that my assumption was wrong would be an understatement. It was ton of work, it turned out to be a great business. I really learned a lot from the entire process. However, the main reason for selling the directory was to solely focus on my freelancing video editing career.
The video market keeps growing with no signs of slowing down. It keeps evolving, and I enjoy changing with it. Do you have a project that you need help with? Send me a message and I will get back to you ASAP!
Have a great day!
Andrew Harry Conroy
